Our story…

Thread Den is the much-loved creation of four women from different backgrounds, who bonded over their shared love of fashion and all things vintage. Among them, they had experienced first-hand the difficulty of trying to start a clothing label from the ground-up; having been frustrated by the lack of resources and support available. They recognized that what was needed was a place for like-minded people to exchange ideas and make useful contacts; a one-stop shop for sewers who do not own their own equipment, or just need a space to work. So began the idea: to create a business that was unique within Australia, that filled that gap in the market…

Opening in November 2007, Thread Den’s sewing lounge proved immediately popular and we are steadily building a loyal clientele. The Thread Den ladies have been simply overwhelmed by the amount of goodwill and support for the business from the crafty community.

March 2010 marked the opening of store number 2 - on Brunswick Street Fitzroy. The lovely street level retail space providing a new opportunity to showcase Thread Den's talented emerging designers.

The question is now: what next? The Thread Den girls are hard at work preparing the next big event as well as the launch of a number of community initiatives, and soon will be looking to further expand the business.  Thread Den continues to encourage and support aspiring designers, in such ways as stocking their wares in-store and exhibiting their work in the coming Fashion Week showcases.
