New Sewing Basics for Beginners Course Launches – Tailored Just for Teens!

11 June 2025 by Danielle Leave a Comment

Fitzroy, Melbourne — Local teens can now learn to stitch, sew and create in style! Our popular Sewing Basics for Beginners course has been specially redesigned for young makers aged 13 to 17, and it’s now available during the school holidays—just in time to kickstart some enjoyable creativity.

This engaging 3-day workshop is perfect for total beginners—no experience needed. In small, friendly groups, teens will learn how to operate a sewing machine confidently, explore essential sewing skills, and create three awesome projects: a wallet, a toiletries case, and a fully lined bag. Each day runs for four hours, with plenty of time for breaks, snacks, and socialising.

“This course is more than just sewing,” says Danielle Francis, Thread Den Director and Teacher. “It’s about building confidence, learning practical skills, and connecting with other creative teens who love making things with their hands.”

Over the three sessions, teens will dive into:

  • Sewing machine basics – threading, stitching, hemming, and more
  • Fabric and pattern know-how – including how to cut, pin, trace, and use interfacing
  • Sewing techniques – from zips to darts, and finishing tricks to get that professional look

Perfect for any teen with an eye on a future in Fashion Design, Textiles Technology, or just curious about how to fix and make their own stuff—this course offers a hands-on taste of what sewing can do.

Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
