Sarong Dress Photos

6 January 2019 by Danielle Leave a Comment

This is a 9 hour workshop making a retro classic with straight skirt foundation, flattering high waist and draping sarong overlay skirt piece. If you don’t include the sarong, you have another dress variation from this pattern! There are three strap variations to choose from; strapless, halter neck or shoulder ties. The bodice is lined and the dress closes with a centred regular dress zip.

This sarong dress sample is made from a Spotlight rayon fabric and features a joyful pom pom trim that picked up on highlights in the large foliage print. We added a reversible bolero to match and show off a contrast – but this isn’t made in the workshop.

Skills covered in this workshop:

  • Taking measurements
  • Choosing your size
  • Pattern placement
  • Tracing and transferring markings
  • Cutting technique
  • Darts
  • Overlocking
  • Princess seams
  • Regular centred zip
  • Hemming
