On 24 April 2013, the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed. 1,138 people died and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history.
Thats when Fashion Revolution started.
Looking for ways to change your fashion consumption?
- Rather than buying new, fall back in love with the clothes you already own.
- Take the #haulternative challenge — a way of refreshing your wardrobe without buying new clothes.
- Shop secondhand.
- Swap with a friend.
- Learn DIY customisation.
- Mend your clothes and make them last longer.
We believe knowing a few sewing skills has its place in the Fashion Revolution.
From the extreme; where you could completely refashion existing garments into entirely new ones, to the simple with simple hand sewing to extend the life of your garments by mending. Learning to sew will also give you the knowledge to assess the clothes you are buying, allowing you to recognise clothes that we last a lifetime – not just the fashion season.
